Develop your Sketchbook Practice
Thursday

Suitable for beginners and more established artists - Adults and Teens 11+
Through drawing skills instruction and guided experimentation with materials, develop a regular sketchbook habit to find your own visual language.
A sketchbook can be many things but often comes with pressure. A pressure for perfection rather than expression and an expectation that it should look a particular way. This can prevent us from ever developing a regular sketchbook habit.
Through experimentation and play, these workshops will provide strategies to combat the fear of the blank page and encourage personal expression, by using mixed media grounds and collage, different mark making techniques with various materials, and techniques to combine images and text. We’ll work across multiple subjects, including, landscape, still life, urban drawing, sculpture and portraiture, while working from direct observation and photographic references.
Whether you attend all 13 autumn sessions or individual sessions, the workshops are designed to help you find your unique approach to the sketchbook and form a key part of developing your own visual language.
Each week there will be a different focus, although there will be scope to work from your own starting point in each session.
All materials supplied except sketchbook. Please bring your own sketchbook.
Fee - £30 per session.

Expand your Painting and Drawing

Suitable for beginners and more established artists - Adults
Develop the fundamentals of drawing and painting, exploring composition, tone and colour, with an energetic and experimental approach to finding expressive form.
These workshops offer the fundamentals of drawing and painting in acrylic and oil paint, while encouraging experimentation and personal expression. Offering structured drawing and painting exercises to improve observation and build confidence, Sally will explore composition, tone and colour with an energetic and active approach to finding expressive form. There is scope for more experienced painters to develop through individual support within the group sessions.

Build a passion for Painting and Drawing

Suitable for beginners and art students 11+
These workshops offer an introduction and ongoing development of the fundamentals of drawing and painting, in an encouraging, engaging and fun environment for teens and young adults.
While offering structured drawing and painting exercises across portraiture, landscape and still life, we will look at art history and contemporary artists to inspire while improving observation and build confidence. Sally will encourage play, experimentation and personal expression away from the school curriculum, while exploring composition, tone and colour with an energetic and active use of materials.
Each week there will be a different focus, although there will be scope to work from your own starting point in each session.
All materials including paper are supplied, except canvases. Please bring own canvas if required.
Fee - £25 per session.

Spooky Halloween Art Workshops at Cass Art, Kingston

Suitable for children and teens aged 6-14
Spooky Halloween Art workshops for children and teens at Cass Art, Kingston.
Join Sally, practicing artist and teacher and experienced workshop leader, to decorate your own ‘Trick or Treat’ Halloween bucket, make spooky decorations or paint your own Halloween themed painting in these fun and engaging sessions. Offering a carousel of activities, appropriate for different age groups, the workshops will allow all participants to select an activity of choice on the day.
- Designed for children and teens aged 6-14
- Suitable for both beginners and more experienced creative children and teens
- All art materials are provided except painting canvases, which can be purchased from Cass Art at 10% discount
- We recommend bringing an apron to keep clothes clean.
